Description

First of all, sorry for my absence here at GFX. I've been very busy, graduating, looking for a job, working and all. But here I am again:

Portrait of a musician.

Michiel is the guitarist of the dutch metal band Trisomy (www.trisomy.nl). He just signed an endorsement deal with Polish custom guitar crafters Mayones and for that occasion we did a photoshoot with his new guitar.

C&C are most welcome!

Very well done Ruth. The pose is a bit formal but serves to highlight the guitar. A good choice of B&W.

Crisp image with wonderful contrast... I find the reflection of people in the guitar quite intriguing, was this on purpose or purely coincidental? Also agree with Gary on your choice of B&W and yes, the pose is a little formal, not quite what I'd expect from a head-banger.

Cool portrait. As has been said, very sharp and clean, and BW works best. Well done.

all the lighting and such looks good, but I think a change of either background or clothing is needed to make everything stand out more, just needs more contrast I think, it looks too posed to me as well, the way he's holding it makes it look like he doesnt really know how to play it. It's a very nice sharp portrait, clear and crisp.

Nice shot, the guitar looks so shiny! I'm not crazy about the background and pose though, they are stealing "life" from the shot. Well done anyways, good choice of exposure and nice focus.

SHAME ON YOU! :( For not spending more time with your friends here at gfx!

Good to see you back! So you have now passed your exams? Congratulations!

This is another typical - Ruth shot!

I must say that the live concert shots have more action and mood in them.
This one is rather stiff in comparison. His facial expressen looks not relaxed.

Still it has a level of quality which is expected from you. Sharpness, composition, light renders you +9.

Thnx for your comments and votes all! :)

@ just4nz: I tried to get minimal reflections in the body of the guitar, but that was almost impossible....I do find however that the reflections in this case are not really distracting from the main subject.
@Antidromic: believe me; he sure does know how to play the guitar ;-). The black background and clothing were chosen on purpose because these are promo photos for the introduction of this new guitar, so it should be the main subject in the photo.

As some of you guys noticed, the pose is quite formal and a bit stiff, I will have to agree with that. It is actually quite hard to get a good portrait of a musician when he's not doing wat he/she's supposed to do: making music....
